the number of后面接复数还是单数

the number of意为“......的数量”，后加可数名词复数。作主语时，谓语动词用单数。the number of表示“......的数量”时,它是一个整体，所以谓语动词用了单数。

1、意思不同

a number of 相当于a lot of，many，意思是：许多，一些。the number of意思是......的数。

a number of后面动词用复数，the number of后面动词用单数。
